ALOHA! This summer I spent a week at the Children's Literature Research Collection at the University of Minnesota. I won the Ezra Jack Keats/Kerlan Memorial Fellowship to fund the research. The CLRC archives were book heaven. I studied 95 books and 27 illustrators, and was inspired by beautiful book art.

I painted faces at the Tomales Festival: butterflies, fish, Spiderman, Captain America and an eye on a bald head. My art classes for children will start soon in Tomales.

Last spring I taught painting to 100 parents and children in the Kipapa school cafeteria. Parents and children enjoyed painting. Young artists lined up so I could show their paintings on the big screen and we had a spontaneous art exhibit.

"My class was fascinated by your paintings and stories. You did an excellent job teaching how book art is created. We are eager to read more of your stories and try the watercolor techniques you taught." Ms.Raney, Montgomery Elementary, California
